Eirin Bendigtsen - Lead Vocalist

1. Where Angels Fall began in 2003. The first record was the EP "Dies Irae", and the current full length album is "Illuminate". What kind of sound  can new listeners expect from Where Angels Fall.

Well, I think I can describe our sound as a mix of groovy metal-riffing, electronica, synthorchestrations with a classical feel, a touch of vocalmusic from the dark era (middle ages) and female vocals.

2. What was the feeling among the band when the record offer from Edgerunner Music came about?

We were happy, of course. We had done nothing to try to get a record deal, so that offer came lik sendt from heaven. ;-)

3. How did the recording process go when working on "Illuminate"?

Before going to Toproom to record, we had made preproductions of all the songs, so all songs and arrangements was complete and rehearsed. In the studio, we started by recording drums over the preproduced songs. After that we recorded bass, and the guitars after that. Unfortunatly I got sick and had to wait for some weeks to do the vocals. We did the choirs layer by layer in another studio. We also did some rerecording of the synthparts. The album was mixed later in Toproom by Borge Finstad, and then mastered at Masterhuset.

4. When WAF first started, what were the expectations for the music?

I think we had a rough idea of a symphonic kind of metal with female vocals. After that we have always let the songs lead the way, and we have tried to make the songs the way we felt that each song needed to be.

5. What is it you enjoy most about being in WAF?

There is so many things I enjoy about being part of WAF! J I am at my best when I am creating new melodies or whole new songs. I also realy enjoy performing, it is always a good feeling. One more thing I enjoy is the good fellowship in the band. We are a crazy little team! ;-)

6. Tell us a little about the song writing process within the band.

None of the songs is writtin by the same procedure, but in the last year we have worked kind of like this; we have homestudios, so that we can record ideas right away. So one of us get an idea (a riff, a theme, a melody, some words.. ). The idea is recorded, and added some more flesh to. After that we often pass it on to one of the others to make their own part of it. Andre makes the guitars and most of the electronica, Kristian makes the basslines, and I make melodies and most of the choirs. We often have sessions at weekends, where we work with the songs, record and have fun.

7. What bands inspire you the most?

I think that we find our inspiration in different ways. I don't think I actually get inspired by other bands. Partly it is because I find my inspiration from feelings, from things I reflect upon, happenings in my life or others, and partly because I don't listen so much to music in general. I enjoy listening to music when I really listen, and the rest of the time it is nice to have silence. Silence is actually nescescary to hear the music within ;-) But I can tell what music I enjoy; My all time favourite band is the norwegian gothrockband Seigmen.

8. What is your musical background?

I have always loved music. It all started with my stepfather teaching me basic things about music at early age. I started to play clarinet when i was nine years old, and playing in the schoolband. I enjoyed learning to play different instruments. I went to music-college as a bassplayer, and at that time I discovered composing for real. I also have studied music at universitylevel. Before WAF I always was the bassplayer in the bands i played in, but at some point I realized that it was a singer I wanted to be.

9. What are your ambitions for the future of WAF?

We want to push WAF as far as possible. To play a lot of gigs, record new material and make some videos. Only time will tell how that turns out ;-)

10. To this stage, what has been your high point in the band?

It was great to have our first printed CDs in our hand, and it was realy great to have our own releasparty in January last year. I hope there is more to come. J

11. Is there a piece of art or film that inspires you?

I tend to be inspired by art or films that touch my heart.

12. What has been your best experience playing live?

Hmm hard to say. There is always new experiences that we feel is ˇ§betterˇ¨ than things in the past. I can look back and think ˇ§that was really goodˇ¨, ˇ§that was also greatˇ¨. I tend to remember the last gigs best.. ;-) Our last gig was a great experience, not because of the crowd, nor the amount of money we got, nor the great feedback we got, but because we did a great gig, and it was so enjoyable to play with a new drummer.

13. Where did the name for the band come from?

I really have amnesia on that one ;-)

14. What is one thing fans should know about WAF?

We present ourselves as angels, but we are humans, with feelings and thoughts ;-)
