Epica's Ad Sluijter - Guitars

Q:
So we all know what a success Epica's first release was. What was the feeling among the band before releasing Consign to Oblivion?
A:
It all went so fast after our first cd that we actually didn't had that much time to think about it.
Q:
Was it ever difficult at any point to successfully blend the Mayan culture into the Epica sound?
A:
This concept is only lyrical, so it was pretty easy.
Q:
How has the European reaction been to an album that incorporates a culture that many may not be familiar with?
A:
Well I guess everybody knows something about the Mayan culture, but I do think people could could relate more to the !ĦħEmbrace That Smothers!ĦL concept from our first cd.
Q:
With such a dynamic accomplishment as Consign to Oblivion, are there any plans for a similar type of album on your 3rd release?
A:
Consign to Oblivion ended up being a little softer that The Phantom Agony, the songs that have been written for the 3 rd album so far are a bit harder again.
Q:
Lets talk about the band in a little more depth. What does playing a show like the Female Voices of Metal mean to Epica?
A:
I guess you mean Metal Female Voices Fest? Well this show is very special to us since it is organized by a very close friend of ours. He has been there for the band as from the beginning, it's great te be playing at his festivals!
Q:
Is it difficult to maintain the band, as well as a daily job or career? How do you balance the two?
A:
Well it's very hard, I'm still trying to graduate in mathematics and when you are away for almost 6 months a year it doesn't help that much;-)
Q:
What music or bands do you find inspiration in when going to write a new album?
A:
We always listen a lot to soundtracks so also when we are writing stuff ourselves.
Q:
Now to the United States. With the sheer size of the states and the planning difficulties. Do you see Epica being able to eventually tour here?
A:
We are trying to plan a tour for next year, let's hope it will all work out!
Q:
Epica mentions the September 11th events on your first album. What impact did that day have on Europeans? How did it look through your eyes?
A:
Even though it was !Ħħfar away!ĦL we were all glued to the television, wanting to know what happened.
Q:
In closing what are a few interesting things all Epica fans should know about the band?
A:
We are actually all nerds hehe
