1. The new album "Bliss of Solitude" is out now, and is the first release on Napalm Records. How does this record differ from the 2 previous full length albums?
It's hard to not be?influenced by others?after reading a bunch of reviews saying this and that, but generally it doesn't differ all that much to previous works.? In a sense, it's a combination of "Forevermore" and "Throne of Void" where the first?mentioned?was?a more atmospheric, melodic?and?varied (maybe even a bit shattered, considering the songs were written over a span of 15 years)?album while the latter was bleaker and heavier. "Bliss.." has all these qualities with a more modern,?darker and probably less "easy listening" approach. The production is also - in my opinion - much better. Thicker and colder, fitting our music very?well.
2. Isole was formerly known as Forlorn, but has been around for many years now. What has kept the band drving forward all this time?
Simply our love for music. The band was actually put on hold for a long time (1996 - 2001, if my memory doesn't fail me) while?pursuing other musical projects, but we wouldn't let the band totally fall into oblivion.
3. What should listeners expect to hear from the album "Bliss of Solitude"?
A harsh, yet melodic and at times slighty proggressive doom metal album that probably needs a bit of attention. There is a lot going on in the songs.
Much have already been?said in question #1.
4. Who did the production on the record?
Ourselves, mainly our drummer Jonas who studied music production and studio techniques a few years back.
5. Where cans fans see the band live this year?
At the moment no shows are booked, but we're working with Timeless Wounds Production (
www.timelesswounds.com) which we hope will lead to a european tour the coming autumn. To begin with...
6. What can fans expect from a live Isole show?
We just go on stage, do our thing to the best of our abilities and?enjoy the moment - which we hope the audience will do as well.
7. The album certainly is an instant Doom metal classic, with heavy Candlemass influences. What other bands or ideas helped shape the Isole sound?
When we started back in the early 90's (as "Forlorn"), Candlemass and Bathory certainly were our main influences. Over the years we have broadened our views and take in influences basically from everywhere. We try to push the (our own?) boundaries and?blend in?none-typical traditional?doom elements, like gentle proggressive passages?and deathmetal aggressiviness. It's almost impossible to mention specific bands.
8. With so many metal styles out today what drew you to play in the Doom style?
The atmosphere, the feeling, the?melodies,?the sheer heaviness.
9. It is apparent that this band has put a great deal of work and dedication into this music. So what does Isole mean to you?
Much. It is a hobby. It is entertainment. It is fellowship. It is an escape from reality.?It is a blessing to have this way of letting out?creativity, feelings and ideas in the company of good, old?friends.
I write music that means something to me and is deeply affected that other people are willing to share my thoughts and feelings. Certainly an honour.
10. Where can fans get Isole merchandise?
